Old-house care

At the bench and on the house

The hand matters.

From shaping a period-correct profile to fitting a repair into century-old wood, the best result comes from reading the material, working carefully, and knowing what should stay.

Two sides of the craft

Good work belongs in the house.

Some projects begin with a piece you want built. Others begin with something that no longer works. Kifer Craft handles both with the same attention to fit, finish, and longevity.

A practical boundary: Kifer Craft focuses on woodworking, finish carpentry, non-structural repairs, and small improvements. Permitted structural, electrical, plumbing, roofing, and HVAC work belongs with the appropriate licensed trade.

Meet the craftsman

A small business on purpose.

I’m Jer Kifer. I started Kifer Craft to bring the patience of the workshop to the everyday needs of a home—especially the older Jacksonville houses that rarely reward one-size-fits-all fixes.

When you reach out, you talk to me. I look at the work, help shape the solution, and carry it through. That keeps communication simple and the details accountable.

01

Listen first

Understand the problem, the house, and what matters to you.

02

Keep what works

Repair sound materials before reaching for unnecessary replacement.

03

Make the fix belong

Match proportion, function, and finish—not just dimensions.

A straightforward process

From first look to final fit.

01

Share the project

Send photos, measurements if you have them, your neighborhood, and what you want the finished work to accomplish.

02

Talk through the fit

I’ll ask a few practical questions, flag anything that needs a licensed trade, and arrange a visit when helpful.

03

Set the scope

You’ll receive a clear description of the work, material assumptions, price, and timing before anything begins.

04

Build it right

I work carefully, communicate as the project moves, and leave the space clean when the work is complete.

Good to know

Before we start.

Do you take small repair jobs?

Yes. Grouping several small items into one punch list is often the most efficient approach. Photos and a short written list make a good starting point.

Do you build custom furniture?

Yes, selectively. Share the intended use, approximate dimensions, visual references, and your preferred timing so I can determine whether the project is a good fit.

Do you only work on historic homes?

No. Older and character-rich homes are a specialty, but careful woodworking and repair make sense in homes of any age.

What happens if the work needs a licensed contractor?

I’ll say so plainly. Good service includes knowing where handyman and woodworking scope ends and where a licensed structural, electrical, plumbing, roofing, or HVAC professional should begin.
